Quick answer: Apple has released its first touchscreen MacBook, the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display, in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. It uses M5 Pro or M5 Max chips (not M6), a tandem OLED touchscreen with a Dynamic Island, and starts at AED 11,999 in the UAE. Pre-orders opened on 28 October 2026 and units arrive from 6 November 2026.

Key takeaways

  • It is a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, not a 2-in-1 or iPad-style tablet, and Apple has not announced Apple Pencil support.
  • The touch model uses M5 Pro / M5 Max. The new M6 MacBook Pro (from AED 8,499) has no touchscreen.
  • Before VAT, UAE buyers pay roughly 7–13.5% more than the converted US price.
  • The 2,000-nit OLED and optional nano-texture finish suit bright UAE rooms, but first-generation touch software is still evolving.
How we wrote this: This guide is based on Apple’s announcement as reported by TechCrunch, Gizmodo, The Next Web and Macworld, and on Apple’s UAE prices reported by Gulf News and tbreak (links at the end). We have not tested the touchscreen MacBook Pro yet. Units reach the UAE from 6 November, and we will update this page with hands-on notes from our Bur Dubai showroom. The price analysis and buying advice are our own, from selling MacBooks to UAE customers every day.

What Apple announced on 28 October 2026

For years Apple refused to put a touchscreen on the Mac. Steve Jobs once called touch laptops “ergonomically terrible”. The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display ends that. Here is what is confirmed:

FeatureMacBook Pro with PROLED XDR (touchscreen)
Sizes14-inch (14.2″ screen) and 16-inch (16.3″ screen)
ChipsM5 Pro or M5 Max, up to 128GB unified memory, up to 16TB SSD
DisplayPROLED XDR tandem OLED, touch built into the panel, up to 2,000 nits peak (HDR and SDR), 10,000,000:1 contrast, adaptive refresh up to 120Hz, P3 and Adobe RGB; optional nano-texture
DesignThe notch is replaced by a Dynamic Island around the 12MP camera. 14-inch weighs 3 lb (about 1.36 kg), 16-inch weighs 4 lb (about 1.81 kg), about half a pound lighter than before
BatteryUp to 24 hours (Apple), 50% charge in about 30 minutes

External displaysUp to 3 (M5 Pro) or 4 (M5 Max)

Important: the touchscreen MacBook is not the M6 MacBook

Apple announced two different MacBook Pros on back-to-back days, and many headlines blend them together. The difference matters for your budget:

In short, M6 is the newer chip in the cheaper, familiar design. The touchscreen model is the new design and display with the more powerful M5 Pro / M5 Max chips. Read our full MacBook Pro M6 guide if you are deciding between the two.

Touchscreen MacBook Pro price in the UAE vs the US

UAE prices include 5% VAT, and US prices do not include sales tax, so we compared both ways. US prices are converted at the dirham’s fixed peg of 3.6725.

ModelUAE price (incl. VAT)US priceUS price in AEDUAE vs US, before VAT
14″ M5 Pro (touch)AED 11,999$2,899AED 10,647+7.3%
16″ M5 Pro (touch)AED 14,499$3,399AED 12,483+10.6%
14″ M5 Max (touch)AED 19,299$4,449AED 16,339+12.5%
16″ M5 Max (touch)AED 20,999$4,799AED 17,624+13.5%
14″ M6 (no touch)AED 8,499$1,999AED 7,341+10.3%

Starting configurations, Apple list prices. Education pricing: AED 11,399 / 13,599 / 17,999 / 19,599 for the four touch models.

So is it worth flying it in from the US? For most people, no. The saving on the 14-inch M5 Pro is roughly AED 780 before US sales tax. That can disappear once you add tax in most states, and you would get a US keyboard layout and a US charger. Warranty service, returns and exchanges are also easier when you buy locally from an authorised seller. The gap is bigger on M5 Max models (around AED 2,000–2,400), where it is worth comparing carefully.

Visiting the UAE? Tourists can usually claim back VAT on purchases at participating shops when leaving the country. Ask the seller for a tax-free receipt.

What touch actually changes on a Mac

Touch works differently here from a Windows 2-in-1. According to Apple:

  • The touch sensor is built into the OLED panel. It is not a separate layer on top, which Apple says cuts latency.
  • macOS 27 converts touches into clicks. Most existing apps, from Safari to Office, can be tapped and scrolled on day one without updates.
  • Developers get new touch controls. Expect apps such as photo editors, music tools and maps to add proper gestures over the coming months.
  • The Dynamic Island comes to the Mac. It shows calls, music and Live Activities, just like on an iPhone.

Where touch helps in real work

  • Presentations and client meetings: tap through slides, zoom into drawings and show photos without reaching for the trackpad.
  • Photo and video review: pinch to zoom on a 2,000-nit OLED and scrub timelines directly.
  • Reading and browsing: scroll long documents or tap links when the laptop is on a café table.
  • Families and first-time Mac users: people used to iPhones and iPads find a touchscreen natural.

Where it won’t change much

Coding, writing, spreadsheets and most office work will still be keyboard and trackpad first. Holding your arm up to a vertical screen is tiring for long sessions. Apple has not announced Apple Pencil support or a fold-flat or detachable design, so this is not an iPad Pro replacement.

OLED and touch in bright UAE rooms

UAE homes and offices are bright, with sun through big windows and strong ceiling lights. Two things help here:

  • 2,000 nits for SDR and HDR. Previous MacBook Pros reach up to 1,000 nits for everyday SDR content. Apple quotes up to 2,000 nits for both on the PROLED XDR panel, so ordinary work stays readable in bright rooms.
  • Optional nano-texture glass (about $150 extra in the US). It reduces reflections, and it is also worth considering on a screen you will now touch with your fingers.

Fingerprints: any glossy touchscreen collects them. Keep a microfibre cloth in your bag, and clean the screen with a slightly damp cloth, not sprays. Tandem OLED stacks two light-emitting layers to reach higher brightness. Apple already uses this approach on iPad Pro.

Should you buy the touchscreen MacBook Pro?

Buy the touchscreen model if…

  • You want the best Mac display available and use a 14″ or 16″ daily
  • You present, review photos or video, or share your screen with clients
  • You need M5 Pro or M5 Max power (video, 3D, large AI models)
  • Your budget is AED 12,000 or more

Choose the MacBook Pro M6 if…

Buy a current MacBook now if…

  • You need a laptop this week, not in November
  • You want a discount on an in-stock M5 Pro (from AED 9,299 at Tech Point Zone)
  • A MacBook Air covers your needs: Air vs Pro guide

Wait a few months if…

  • You want proven touch app support before you pay first-generation prices
  • You want to see real reviews of battery life with heavy touch use
  • You are hoping for prices to settle once stock improves (supply reports point to higher volumes in 2027)

What we still don’t know

  • Real-world battery life when touch is used a lot (Apple’s 24 hours is for video playback).
  • How quickly popular apps (Adobe, Microsoft, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve) add touch-specific controls.
  • Whether Apple Pencil or tablet-style features will come in a later macOS update.
  • How well UAE stock will keep up in the first weeks. Reports suggest Apple expects to ship up to 1.5 million units in 2027, so early stock may be limited.

We will update this article after we have the machine in our showroom.
