Short answer: for most people in the UAE, the sweet spot is a laptop with a current Intel Core Ultra, AMD Ryzen AI or Snapdragon X processor, 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD and a Full HD or sharper screen. In Dubai that costs about AED 2,300–3,500. Spend more only if you game, edit video or want a premium build.

Key takeaways

  • Choose by what you’ll use it for first, then specs, then brand.
  • 16GB RAM is the right amount for most buyers – and many thin laptops can’t be upgraded later.
  • Gaming? The graphics card (RTX 5050 / 5060) matters more than anything else.
  • Most laptops sold in Dubai are U.S. versions – check who handles the warranty before you pay.
  • Best times to buy: White Friday, 11.11, Dubai Shopping Festival and back-to-school.

Step 1 Decide what you’ll use it for

The most common mistake we see in our Dubai shop is buying on price or looks first. Start with the job the laptop has to do:

Students

Battery life, low weight and 16GB RAM. Engineering and design courses need more power. If your school runs on Google tools, a Chromebook may be enough.

Office & business

A good keyboard, a 14–16-inch screen, a decent webcam and ports for a monitor. ThinkBook, Dell Pro and HP OmniBook are built for this.

Programming

16GB for web and Python; 24–32GB for Docker, virtual machines and Android Studio. iOS development needs a Mac.

Gaming

The graphics card matters most: RTX 5050/4050 for 1080p, RTX 5060 for more headroom, RTX 5070 Ti-class for high settings. Expect 3–5 hours of battery.

Notes, drawing & presenting

A 2-in-1 with touch and pen folds into a tablet. Touch adds weight and cost, so only pay for it if you’ll use it.

A strong processor, 24–32GB RAM, 1TB storage and an accurate screen. Usually a MacBook Pro or a laptop with a dedicated GPU.

Step 2 Choose the specs you actually need

Not sure what’s inside the laptop you already own? Here’s how to check laptop specifications on Windows and Mac.

RAM8GB (minimum)16GB24–32GB

Processor: what the letters mean

  • Intel: Core Ultra 5 for everyday use, Core Ultra 7 for more headroom. Model numbers ending in V (e.g. 256V) favour battery life, U are efficient all-rounders, H/HX are for performance and gaming.
  • AMD: Ryzen AI 5/7 are strong all-rounders with good built-in graphics; Ryzen H-series chips power many gaming laptops.
  • Snapdragon X (Arm): excellent battery life and instant wake-up.
  • Apple M-series: outstanding performance and battery life, if you’re happy with macOS.

Watch out: RAM you can’t upgrade. Many thin laptops, including most Copilot+ PCs with LPDDR5X memory, have RAM soldered to the board. Buy at least 16GB on day one. On laptops with memory slots, we can upgrade the RAM or SSD without voiding your warranty.

Snapdragon laptops: most everyday apps run well, but check that any specialist software, older games or anti-cheat systems you rely on support Windows on Arm.

Screen, battery and ports

  • Size: 13–14 inches to carry all day, 15–16 inches for a bigger workspace. Add an external monitor at your desk.
  • Refresh rate: 60Hz is fine for office work; 120–165Hz feels smoother and matters for gaming.
  • Battery & weight: students and travellers should look for 8+ hours real-world and under ~1.5 kg. See how long a laptop battery should last.
  • Ports: USB-C charging is convenient; an HDMI port saves buying an adapter.

Do you need a Copilot+ PC? They include an AI chip (NPU) for on-device Windows AI features such as live captions with translation. Useful, but not a reason on its own to spend more – the processor, RAM and screen matter more day to day.

Step 4 Pick a brand

Every major brand makes good and bad laptops – the model line matters more than the logo.

Step 5 Understand the warranty before you pay

This is where UAE buyers most often get caught out. Many laptops sold in Dubai – including ours – are U.S.-version models.

What a U.S.-version laptop means for you

  • Warranty: the original U.S. manufacturer warranty, usually one year. At Tech Point Zone you contact us first; we arrange pickup or help at our Bur Dubai shop and handle the claim with the manufacturer’s service centre.
  • Keyboard: U.S. English layout. Arabic letter stickers or a separate keyboard are easy fixes if you type in Arabic.
  • Upgrades: a properly done RAM or SSD upgrade doesn’t void the warranty on most brands (Apple laptops can’t be upgraded).

Read laptop warranty types for a full explanation, and our warranty policy for exactly what we cover.

Before you buy: quick checklist

  • Is the RAM upgradeable? If not, buy at least 16GB.
  • Who handles warranty claims in the UAE, and how long do repairs take?
  • Do the specs match the listing? Check in under a minute when it arrives.
  • What’s the return window? Ours is 14 days for unused laptops in original packaging.
  • Do you need extras – a laptop bag, mouse or USB-C adapter?

Frequently asked questions

How much should I spend on a laptop in the UAE?

For most people, AED 2,300–3,500 buys a laptop that stays fast for four to five years. Gaming and creative work usually need AED 4,000 or more.

Is 8GB of RAM enough in 2026?

For light browsing and documents, yes – but it leaves little headroom, and on laptops with soldered memory you can’t add more later. We recommend 16GB for most buyers.

Are U.S.-version laptops safe to buy in Dubai?

Yes, if you buy from a seller that handles warranty claims for you. Check who processes repairs and how long they take before you pay.

Should I buy a Copilot+ PC?

Only if the rest of the specs suit you. The AI features are a bonus; battery life, RAM and the screen make a bigger day-to-day difference.

When is the best time to buy a laptop in the UAE?

Prices usually drop during White Friday (November), 11.11, Dubai Shopping Festival and back-to-school season. Keep an eye on our laptop deals page.
